Lai Mohammed Request to shot down Big Brother Naija Show due to fear of Covid-19

Dr. Kemi Olunloyo has reacted via her twitter handle on the news that the Minister of information and Culture, Lai Mohammed has asked the Nigerian Broadcasting Corporation to shut down the reality TV show.

Big brother Nigeria (bbnaija), which just entered season 5 on the 20th of July, 2020 is one of the most watched programmes on cable television in Nigeria.

On Wednesday, 22nd July, Mr. Armstrong Idachaba, who is the acting (DG) --director-general of the Nigerian broadcasting corporation (NBC), revealed to senior management members that the minister had directed him to shut down the show over fears of spread of COVID-19 amongst housemates.

Allegedly, this move to go through the NBC shows that Lai Mohammed wanted the letter shutting down the show to come from the NBC due to the general belief that he is bent on sending MultiChoice Ltd, the producers of Big brother Nigeria (BBN), out of Nigeria.

Although, a director have reminded the meeting that NBC had earlier sought explanations from Multichoice, via a later on July 1 on possible violations of COVID-19 protocols by airing the show. MultiChoice is said to have replied the letter with detailed explanations on measures they had taken in collaboration with the agency of the government of Lagos state, the Lagos State Safety Commission.

As the news broke on how Minister Lai Mohammed attempted in shutting down the show, Investigative journalist, Dr. Kemi Olunloyo tweeted, showing her disapproval on the minister's alleged attempt.
